Heavy weight Melbourne Zoo residence Roan and Honey turned from brown bears to snow bunnies yesterday. The pair awoke to find a winter wonderland with 15 tonnes of ice fresh Mt Buller snow covering their home...... Roan's enthusiasm was briefly tempered when he spied a spectacular ice sculpture of a bear. The 140 kg sculpture was no match for 210kg Roan who destroyed the icy intruder within minutes finding it in his backyard with a swipe from his massive paws the top half of the ice sculpture smashed into the pool. Keeper Matt West described the experiment as fantastic success......... Roan can stand 2.4 m tall and weighs 210kg and honey who weighs 160kg are Syrian Brown bears.

The EYE - Talk about Cool, Here's a growth industry for you. And one with very few overheads. All you need is water, a freezer and chainsaw. Ok, there are tricks to ice sculpting but you get the idea "We have a patented process "says Paul Lowcock of Ice Occasions who is gearing up for Caulfield Cup Day. We'll have 45 ice sculptures Saturday in the racetrack marquees, so we'll be up even before the jockeys and trainers. We get hot days, Lowcock says, but it doesn't matter as too much the sculpture should last five to eight hours before losing definition. One thing that is very popular is ice luges which allows people to pour a spirit like vodka through the top and it comes out the bottom. Drink enough tequila through one of these babies and you end up cactus yourself.

Paul and the team were asked to be involved in the AFL “My club commercial” .The brief was to have an AFL footballer marking a sherrin with 2 horn of plenty ice sculptures beside to create one enormous impressive buffet decoration table. The advertisement was saturated on television and was a huge success in gaining awareness and increasing membership to AFL clubs

Ice Occasions was commissioned to ice carve the Channel 7 logo and ice sleds for the Winter Olympic coverage advertisement. There was no problems with the ice melting while shooting film at the snow here.

When Melbourne's racing season hots' up, so does the demand for ice sculptures at Dingley's Ice Occasions It's the busiest time of the year for Paul Lowcock, his company, as they add some temporary art to parties and corporate events all over town. "Its a good night if the party lasts longer than the ice sculptures, after that length of time no guests notice they have melted he said.
